Unemployment Rises To 6 Per Cent
The Australian unemployment rate took an unexpected rise to 6 per cent in January 2016 from 5.8 per cent a month earlier which missed market expectations. Latest unemployment rate is the highest figure since September 2015.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics reported total number of people with jobs fell by 7,900 in the month of January, which well missed the expectations of a rise of 15,000.
The number of part time jobs was up by 32,700 but full time employment fell by 40,600. Participation rate was steady at 65.2 per cent which refers to people either employed or actively seeking work.
